This is a very easy and presentable dessert if you have invited about 8-10 guests. The making of it just need half an hour and it can be prepared few hours in advance and refrigerated till it is ready to serve. For this you can either bake your own cake , but here I have used the bakery one . I have given a simple version of the pudding which does not require any baking. You can experiment the same recipe with your favorite ingredients too which will all give different but good flavours. It can be tried with fresh fruits also. For those who are just taste oriented and does not mind adding few calories can add cream in one layer as that will give a real good flavor and texture to the dish.
INGREDIENTS:
- Brown and Polson Vanilla custard powder- 3 tablespoons
- Milk- 1/2 litres
- Sugar- 1/2 cup
- Vanilla pudding cake - one packet (around 12 pieces)
- Wafers- Chocolate , vanilla and Strawberry -1 packet
- Dry fruits- 1/4 cup
- Chocolate chips- 1/4 cup (You can substitute it with m&m or gems)
- Mixed fruits jam- 5 spoons
- Cream to decorate
- A Pudding serving dish preferably glass.
How to prepare:
Step 1: Custard preparation
Measure 1/2 litre milk in a thick bottomed pan. Remove 1/4 cup milk from this and keep aside. Measure three heaped tablespoons of custard powder and mix it well with the 1/4 cup milk and keep aside. Boil the rest of the milk in the pan adding 1/2 cup sugar and continuously keep stirring . When the milk is boiled add the custard preparation to it and continously stir the mixture as there is possibility for it to form lumps and also get burnt at the bottom. Continuous stirring and using a thick bottomed pan helps to avoid this. When the custard has reached a flowing but thick consistency remove from flame and keep aside to cool to room temperature.
Step2: Pudding
Take a clean dry custard serving dish. Crumble the cake pieces at the bottom to form a layer. Above this put few dry fruits and crumble some wafers on it . Put some chocolate chips onto the wafers. Pour some custard mix onto it so that it covers the entire cake and fruits spread. Add 2 spoons jam onto the custard . Repeat the layering till the dish is complete . Decorate with cream or icing. Cover with a plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 4-5 hours till the dish is set.
Step 3: Serving.
The dish can be cut like a pudding . It will be a colorful piece with cake, custard , fruits ,wafers and choc chips.
