Kallumakai Fry

Mussels /Kallumakai is undoubtedly the most favourite shellfish in Kannur,Kerala .T Kannurites prepare many yummy recipes with Kallummakai like Kallumkai varattiyathu ,Kallumakkai curry , Kallumakai biriyani ,Kalummakai porichathu,Ari kadukka etc etc. Here I am giving a simple version of a fry.

INGREDIENTS:
  • Kallumakai - about 25 in number
  • Red chilly powder- 1 tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder- 1/4 tablespoon
  • Salt - a pinch or as needed.
  • Oil for frying
  • Onions -thinly sliced.

How to prepare:
Step1: Clean the mussels and marinate with red chilly powder, turneric powder and salt. Keep for 20 minutes.

Step 2: Shallow fry
Heat oil in a pan. shallow fry the mussels till it turns reddish brown. Pat dry with a tissue. In the same oil fry some thinly sliced onions till it turns brown. Mix the mussels with the fried onions

Step 3: Serving
Garnish with curry leaves and serve hot with rice  as a side dish. You can also add grated coconut if needed.
