This is an easy , non messy , and quick recipe for boneless fish pieces. It can be made spicy or sweet according to your taste. And the masala also can be varied accordingly. Usually this dish is prepared with fried fish but I avoid frying as much as possible. So today as I had very few boneless pieces and also did not have the mood to go for traditional style curries I thought I will make something new and tasty. This goes well with boiled rice as well as with chappathy and once cooked it would not have the appearance of fish at all.
Serves 4
INGREDIENTS:
- Boneless fish pieces - cut and cleaned (I used the Blue Marlin Steak) - 10 bite sized pieces
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 tablespoon
- Red chilly powder - 2 tablespoons
- Coriander powder - 2 tablespoons
- Fish masala powder - 1 tablespoon
- Lime juice or tamarind water - 2 tablespoon (optional)
- Tomatoes - 1 medium sized chopped to cubes and then pureed.
- Onion - 1 medium sized thinly sliced
- Ginger garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
- Green chillies- 3 chopped finely
- Cumin seeds (Jeera)- 1 tablespoon
- Salt as needed
- Mint and coriander leaves- 2 tablespoons
How to Prepare:
Step 1: Marinate the fish pieces with salt , lemon juice and turmeric powder for 15 minutes
Step 2: Heat oil, add the cumin seeds and wait till it turns brown. Add the ginger garlic paste , green chillies and saute till it is cooked. Add the sliced onions and saute till it turns transparent and slightly brown. Add the masala powders and saute well. Now add the tomato puree and cook well. It will turn into a sauce like consistency .
Step 3: Add the marinated fish pieces and mix well. Add one cup water and close with lid , cook for 10 minutes stirring in between. Do not break the pieces. When the fish pieces are cooked , remove the lid and add mint and coriander leaves finely chopped. Cook uncovered for another 5 minutes or till the gravy is thickened.
Step 4: Serve hot with boiled rice or with chappathys.
Tips: If you want it less spicy and more sweet , you can avoid adding green chillies , reduce the red chilly powder and add tomato sauce in the end with little sugar .
Delicious and very easy ...Thank you for the recipe
