Idichakka thoran

This is an authentic and Kerala's own recipe. Idichakka or tender jackfruit is a favorite item of every malayalee . Jackfruit tree, Mango tree and coconut trees are a must see in all Kerala houses backyards. So when the seasons come it is a usual scene everywhere - the boys in the houses are the ones who initiate the plucking of the fruits when it is ready and the family enjoys it in various forms. The cleaning and cutting of Idichakka (Green jackfruit) is very tideous process and is usually done in the work area outside the kitchen as the process will be bit messy too.

These are the snaps taken from my house this year

I would admit that I do not know the cutting and cleaning method . But here in USA it is very easy to prepare this dish as we get canned green jackfruit in Indian stores.

Just drain off the water content ,No hassle of cleaning and cutting, ready to use chunks of green jackfruit . When I prepared this for the first time it was unbelievable , the taste and appearance were just like that of fresh ones. We loved it. I would recommend this to all Keralaites who are craving for this dish. In one can you will get around 6 chunks , so good for a small family. But if you are having this after long time then I would advice you to go for two cans !!!!
