This is a spicy snack which requires less ingredients and can be made in your own style. It is a good evening snack as well as an easy party item. You can make it authentic with the green chutney and tamarind chutney. Here I have made a very simple yet tasty version of the chaat. It is colorful and sure to be liked by kids. It makes a filling snack as all the ingredients that go into it are heavy.
Serves 6
INGREDIENTS:
- Kabuli channa - 2 cups (Soaked overnight and cooked adding salt for three whistles)
- Potatoes - cubed- 2 cups (Salted and Cooked for one whistle )
- Tomatoes - chopped removing the seeds - 1 cup
- Capsicum- chopped to cubes -removing the seeds - 1
- Red chilly powder- 1/2 tablespoon
- Coriander powder- 1/4 tablespoon
- Cumin powder- 1/4 tablespoon
- Chaat masala - 1 tablespoon
- Lemon juice- 2 tablespoons
- Coriander leaves- 1 tablespoon
- Ginger- 1 inch piece grated
- Cumin seeds- 1/2 tablespoon
- Onion- 1 medium sized - chopped to cubes
- Haldiram mix- 2 tablespoons or sev to garnish
- Green chutney and tamarind chutney (Optional)
- Grated carrot- to garnish
How to Prepare:
Step 1: Heat one tablespoon oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and wait till it turns brown. Add the chopped onions , ginger and capsicum saute till the onions turns transparent. Add the cooked channa and mix well. Add all the masala powders and salt. When mixed well add the chopped tomatoes and mix well. Switch off flame. Add the chopped coriander leaves.
Step 2: When it is ready to serve , transfer to a flat plate or container and garnish with the Haldiram mix or with sev and grated carrot. Sprinkle some lemon juice on top and serve. (You can add green chutney or tamarind chutney also)
