Semiya biriyani


This is a tasty snack as well as a good dish for dinner . It is easy quick and variety recipe .This week I had organized a party at my house for the Indian ladies group here and this was one item in the menu. I prepared it in my style which I apply for the normal biriyanis. It came good.Normally I prepare upma with Vermicelli or semiya  so this time I wanted to try something new .

Serves 4


INGREDIENTS:
Vermicelli - 1 packet which is 2 cups approx. (I have reduced the quantity level to suit the nuclear family need)
Mixed vegetables - 1 cup (green peas, carrot, Green beans, capsicum, Corn) You can use chicken or shrimp if you need a non veg biriyani. 
Ginger- garlic- green chilly paste - 2 tablespoons
Coriander - mint leaves chopped - 2 tablespoons
Cumin seeds or jeera - 1 tablespoon
Medium sized onion- 1 thinly sliced
Tomatoes- 2 finely chopped
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tablespoon
Corinader powder- 2 tablespoons
Garam masala powder- 1 tablespoon
Biriyani masala - 1/2 tablespoon (Optional)
Salt as needed
Cashews and raisins for garnish

How to Prepare: 

Step 1: Boil the vegetables adding salt and little garam masala . Keep aside

Step 2: Boil five cups water. Add the semiya into it  and stir well till cooked. Drain it in a colander adding little oil on top to avoid  sticking  to each other.

Step 2: Heat ghee/butter in a pan, add cumin seeds and then the ginger-garlic -green chilly paste to it and saute till the raw smell leaves. Add the thinly sliced onions and saute till it turns transparent. add the chopped tomatoes and saute till it is mixed well with the gravy. Add all the masala powders and saute well. Add in the mixed vegetables and mix well with the masala. Add salt .When the vegetables are done, stir in the cooked semiya. Mix well. 

Step 3: Heat little ghee in a small pan add the cashews and raisins. when done garnish the biriyani with it on top. Add the chopped coriander and mint too to garnish. Serve hot
