Fish Molly(Malabar style)

This is a less spicy version of fish curry made with coconut milk. My hubby loves it as his mom used to make it , its her specialized item. So I learned it from her and tried it once . I have modified it a little bit to suit the ingredients here. It came out good. So here is the simple recipe for it .We need a good cut fish , somewhat like pomfret which is not that soft , and is tasty when shallow fried. In this recipe you have to first marinate the fish and shallow fry it. then prepare the gravy and add the fried fish to it.

Serves 2

INGREDIENTS:
  • Boned fish (I have taken Atlantic Salmon) - 4 pieces cut and cleaned. 
  • 1 tablespoon - lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon -ground pepper
  • 1 medium sized onion- finely chopped
  • 1 medium sized tomato- cubed
  • 2 green chillies- finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup- finely chopped corainder leaves and mint leaves
  • 2 cups- thick coconut milk 
  • 1 tablespoon- finely chopped ginger
  • 1 tablespoon- finely chopped garlic
  • salt as needed
How to Prepare: 

Step1: Fish fry
Marinate the fish pieces with salt, lime juice and pepper. Keep for 15 minutes. Shallow fry the pieces till done. Keep aside.

Step 2:Masala
Heat butter/oil in a pan, saute onions till it turns light brown.  Add the chopped ginger ,garlic , chopped green chillies and saute till the mix turns brown. Allow it to cool . Grind it a smooth paste without adding water.

Step 3: Gravy
In the same pan, saute the masala paste till it is cooked and then add the chopped tomatoes. saute well. Add the thick coconut milk and cook well adding required salt. When the gravy is all done switch off the flame.

Step 4: Serving
Add the fried fish into the gravy and garnish with fresh ground pepper. It will go well in combinations with ghee rice, chappathy, vellayappam, puttu or simply bread. Enjoy this yummy gravy.

  2. I am not sure if this recipe will go well with mushroom. But I do have simple recipe for mushroom, will post it as soon as I make one .
