Chilli Gobi

This is a tasty and easy dry dish with cauliflower. I am not a great fan of cauliflower but I used to like one dish which was available in a local chinese restaurant in our place , that was called dragon fry. Since it was the specialty of that particular restaurant I could not get a recipe to try that out. Today as I was planning to make something different from usual using cauliflower I searched for new recipes and this one attracted me , as it looked just like the Dragon fry, I tired it and it came successful. Thanks to the blog.

Serves 4

INGREDIENTS:
  • Cauliflower - 1
  • Cornstarch - 1/2 cup
  • Maida (All purpose flour) - 1/2 cup
  • Salt as needed
  • Red chilly powder- 1 tablespoon
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
  • Capsicum - 1 cubed
  • 1 medium onion - sliced lenghtwise
  • Soy sauce- 2 tablespoons
  • Tomato sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Red chilly sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Coriander leaves- to garnish

How to Prepare:

Step 1:  Cut the cauliflower into small florets. Soak it in salted warm water for 15 minutes.
Mix together the flour , cornstarch , red chilly powder and little salt without adding water. Roll the florets in the flour so that it gets an even thin coating all over . Heat oil and deep fry the florets till golden brown. Keep it on a paper towel .

Step 2: Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a pan , add the sliced onions, saute till the raw smell leaves. Add the ginger garlic paste and saute till it gets cooked and the onion becomes transparent. Add the cubed capsicum and saute till it is cooked but still crisp. Add salt as needed and mix well. Transfer it to a dry plate.

Step 3: In the same pan as above, heat 1 tablespoon oil , add the sauces one by one and mix well. Add the fried florets and mix well. After it is thoroughly mixed add the sauteed onion capsicum mixture and mix well . Switch off the flame.Leave it in the same pan for sometime.

Step 4: Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or chappathy.
