Mampazha Pulissery

This is an authentic recipe of Kerala. It uses the King of Fruits -Mango as the main ingredient . So I need not describe what the flavor would be , its simply exquisite. A little bit sweet gravy to go with boiled rice and a dry curry . It is mostly loved by kids and adults the same way. I do not think there would be any South Indian who do not like Mangoes or Jack fruits . This is a simple curry preparation .For this we need very ripe and sweet mangoes. I do not know to name the suitable ones , here I got the normal ripe mangoes which is seen in all grocery stores. I was doubtful if it would be good for the recipe but that worked well for me.

Serves 4

INGREDIENTS:
  • Ripe mango- 1 (Cut into small cubes without the skin)
  • Grated coconut - 1/4 cup

  • Curd/Yoghurt- 4 tablespoons
  • Turmeric powder- 1/4 tablespoon
  • Salt as needed
  • Mustard seeds- 1 tablespoon
  • Whole red chilly- 3 broken to half
  • Curry leaves to garnish

How to Prepare:

Step 1: Grind the grated coconut with cumin seeds and green chillies to a smooth paste without adding water. Add the curd and blend once more . Keep aside.

Step 2: Boil the mango pieces with 2 cups water till is is cooked well.

Step 3: Add the coconut curd paste to this boiled mangoes with salt and turmeric powder and cook well . The mangoes will be in a mashed stage finally.

  1. i add a little bit of chilli powder also when boiling mangoes.. It would give a good color and also give a better taste to the mangoes when we bite in to it.. Just a thought...
