Strawberry Parfait


This is a very healthy dessert which can be had by any diet conscious person without feeling guilty. It can be had after food or even as a snack or as a breakfast item. Its heavy too. Made with very less ingredients. I had this dessert for the first time from my friend Sowmya's place and that was very tasty. It can be also made little sweet and as normal dessert by adding jello or custard or even cake pieces at the bottom layer. that contributes to the additional taste and sweetness. But here I have given the simple recipe for a diet conscious dessert with fresh strawberry non fat plain yogurt and dried cranberries all of which are healthy and nutritious .


INGREDIENTS:
  • Yogurt- 1/2 cup beaten well ( mixed with 2 tablespoons sugar if you want it sweet)
  • Vanilla essence/ extract- 1 drop
  • Fresh strawberries- 4 chopped 
  • Dried Cranberries- 1/4 cup
  • Granola bars - 1 
  • Crushed nuts- 2 tablespoons to garnish (Optional)
How to Prepare: 

Step 1: Beat the yogurt well . Here as I wanted to make a diet friendly dessert I did not add sugar but you can add two tablespoons for little flavor if needed. Add a drop of vanilla essence and mix well.
Step 2: Layer few chopped strawberries at the bottom layer of the dessert glass/cup and pout one tablespoon beaten yogurt on top of it. now layer few dried cranberries on top of the yogurt and then crush some granola over it . Pour another tablespoon yogurt over it and repeat the layering . 


Step 3: Garnish with chopped nuts like pistas , almonds or walnuts and keep in refrigerator till use. Best taste when chilled.

Tips: You may add cake bits on the bottom layer and pour jello over it and then layer with custard for the initial three layers . then repeat the procedure if you need a much more flavorful dessert intended for younger generation or kids. You can also add banana pieces to add to the flavor. You may garnish with cream also if you need a more flavorful but least healthy dessert. Choice is yours!!!!
